SBLSD receives Purple Star Award in support of military families

Sumner-Bonney Lake School District is one of 11 school districts across Washington to earn a Purple Star Award for 2026 and 2027! The two-year award recognizes districts that have incorporated military-friendly practices and demonstrate a commitment to military-connected students and families.

As a Purple Star District, SBLSD is dedicated to addressing the unique educational, social and emotional needs of students from military families, including challenges related to frequent school transitions and parental deployments. By earning this designation, we affirm our commitment to providing military-connected students and families with the resources, supports, and tools needed for academic success and future readiness — whether in higher education, military service or a technical career.

Established by the state legislature in 2023, the Washington Purple Star Award is in its third year. SBLSD was among the first to earn the inaugural award for 2024 and 2025.

April is also Month of the Military Child, which honors the strength, sacrifices and unique challenges that children of military personnel face. We encourage you to recognize the military children in your life, celebrate their global perspectives, and nurture the connections that help build a strong community.

Thank you to all of our military families for their service. For resources and information, visit our website.
